VENICE HOSPITALITY

Venice Guide

Islands, stories and ideas for your Venice.

A LOCAL PERSPECTIVE

A little closer to Venice.

Murano’s glass, Burano’s colours and Torcello’s quiet landscapes. Each island tells a different story of the lagoon. Find ideas for what to see, meet local people and prepare for your visit.

Start with the stories, explore the islands and check the practical details. To shape an itinerary around your time and interests, you can speak directly with Mattia.

THE JOURNAL

Stories from the lagoon.

Craftsmanship, traditions and people in the pages of Venice Hospitality.

Articles keep their original publication dates. Stories about events in 2025 belong to our archive and are not a calendar of upcoming events.

FIND YOUR WAY AROUND THE LAGOON

Five islands, five ways to explore.

Choose the landscapes and stories that interest you. Each tour page explains which islands are included, the duration and the conditions of the experience.

Glass & craftsmanship

Murano

Furnaces and the work of glassmakers are central to the island’s identity. Colours & Traditions and Magic Lagoon include a visit to a glass workshop to see glassblowing in action.

Choose it for glass and traditional craftsmanship.

Colour & lace

Burano

Colourful houses, small canals and lace shops. Burano invites you to walk and notice the details of island life. It is a stop on Colours & Traditions and Magic Lagoon.

Choose it for colourful walks and local traditions.

Lagoon history

Torcello

The basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and quieter surroundings reveal another side of Venice. Torcello is part of Magic Lagoon and Treasures & Nature. Any visits inside the monuments must be agreed in advance.

Check opening times, tickets and time for your visit before setting off.

The monastery & its quiet setting

San Francesco del Deserto

An island centred on a Franciscan monastery, with a cloister, church and garden. It is a stop on Treasures & Nature; visits inside are led by a friar and depend on the monastery’s opening arrangements.

Check monastery visits for your chosen date.

Gardens & landscapes

Sant’Erasmo

Vegetable gardens, orchards, vineyards and waterside landscapes define the “garden of the lagoon”. Treasures & Nature includes Sant’Erasmo on its route through the quieter islands.

Choose it to discover the agricultural side of the lagoon.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Before you set off.

The practical details that help you plan your time in Venice.

Arriving from Marco Polo Airport

A private water taxi connects the airport to your hotel or the nearest accessible landing point. Share your flight, arrival time, destination, guest count and luggage; use the dock confirmed for your service.

WATER TAXIS & TRANSFERS

Choosing how long to spend on the islands

Allow for both sailing and stops. Each tour page lists its duration, route and inclusions. For a different itinerary, tell us which islands interest you and how many hours you have.

COMPARE TOURS

Agreeing on your meeting point

Your boarding point depends on the service. Check your booking confirmation and ask for directions if you are leaving from your hotel: a hotel address does not always correspond to a usable landing point.

MEETING POINTS

Travelling with children or mobility needs

Tell us in advance about children’s ages, pushchairs, mobility aids and your group’s requirements. The boat, boarding point and stops should be checked together before booking.

LET’S TALK

FAQ

A few questions to get started.

How does a boat tour differ from a transfer?

A tour is an experience for exploring the islands, with an itinerary and time for stops. A transfer takes you to a destination; a water taxi at disposal lets you agree on a route for a defined period. Duration, inclusions and conditions are specific to the service you choose.

Are monument tickets always included?

No: check the inclusions on your tour page. For basilicas, bell towers, museums or other visits, confirm opening arrangements, availability and any entrance costs in advance. An island being part of the itinerary does not mean that every indoor visit is included.

Can I book the events described in the guide today?

Each article shows its publication date. The stories about Carnival and Glass Week 2025 refer to those editions. To plan an experience during a future event, contact us with your date and interests; do not treat the old dates as a current calendar.

What should I include in a personalised itinerary request?

Tell us your date, available time, number of guests, islands or places you want to visit and preferred departure point. Add children’s ages and any mobility needs. For a transfer, include your destination and luggage as well.
