For a first visit, it makes sense to start with the Giardini and Arsenale: Biennale Arte 2026, the 61st International Art Exhibition ‘In Minor Keys’, is open from 9 May to 22 November 2026 and also extends to Forte Marghera and other venues in the historic centre. Venues and dates to note
The 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, entitled ‘In Minor Keys’, runs from Saturday 9 May to Sunday 22 November 2026. The institutional venues listed by the Biennale are the Giardini, Arsenale and Forte Marghera, with further presences in Venice’s historic centre. To help you orient yourself, the exhibition is accompanied by 100 National Participations: 29 at the Giardini, 25 at the Arsenale and 46 in the historic centre. However, the Biennale specifies in the FAQs that the standard ticket includes only the Giardini and Arsenale venues: pavilions and events in the city follow their own access rules, and Collateral Events are mostly free but with possible exceptions. What to see first to get your bearings
If it is your first Biennale, the simplest approach is this: the main exhibition between the Giardini and Arsenale, then the national pavilions, then any spread-out stops in the city. The Giardini are the historic site of the Biennale and today host 29 foreign national pavilions. The Venice Biennale – Biennale Giardini
The Venice Pavilion presents ‘NOTE PERSISTENTI’, with commissioner Maurizio Carlin and curator Giovanna Zabotti. The Venice Biennale – Biennale Arte 2026 | Venice Pavilion
The Italy Pavilion, at the Arsenale, presents ‘Con te con tutto’, curated by Cecilia Canziani and dedicated to Chiara Camoni. The Venice Biennale – Biennale Arte 2026 | Italy
How to organise your visit without wasting time
If you have little time, it is best to choose one venue at a time. The Biennale indicates an average duration of about 3 hours per venue, and the single ticket is valid for one entry to the Giardini and one entry to the Arsenale, even on different non-consecutive days. For tickets and guided tours, as of 15 September 2026 the official guidance is not fully aligned: in the ticket section the Biennale says sales are ‘exclusively online’, while in the FAQs on the same page it indicates the infopoints at the Giardini and Arsenale as places where it is possible to buy tickets and fixed-departure guided tours. For this reason, buying online remains the safest channel; for on-site sale of standard tickets it is worth checking with the Biennale first, while some dedicated reductions and free admissions are expressly handled at the infopoints. How to get there and which stops are best to use
From Piazzale Roma or the railway station, the Biennale indicates ACTV lines 1 and 4.1 for the Arsenale; for the Giardini, lines 1, 2, 4.1, 5.1 and 6 only from Piazzale Roma. In the official brochure, however, line 2 is marked as subject to seasonal changes in timetable and stop. The Venice Biennale – Biennale Arte 2026 | Information PUBLIC INFORMATION
There are four official entrances: the Giardini from Viale Trento 1260 and from Sant’Elena; the Arsenale from Campo della Tana 2169/F and from the Ponte dei Pensieri, in Salizada Streta. The Venice Biennale – Biennale Arte 2026 | Information PUBLIC INFORMATION
Who this visit suits best
Biennale Arte 2026 works best if you want to organise a visit by venue, choosing first whether to start from the Giardini or the Arsenale. If instead you want to include pavilions spread around the historic centre too, it is worth checking the access for each stop in advance: they are not automatically included in the standard Art ticket.
